These pictures show a piece of highly figured olive ash being worked and finished, it was cut from a very nice large log.

Ich finde aber das durch Deine Art das Holz zu spannen, einiges von dem schönen Holz verloren gegangen ist.

Hallo George,

sehr schönes Holz und Werk.
Bin der gleichen Meinung wie der Erick, 1/4 davon wurde leider verschwendet.

Ich hätte es zwischen die Spitzen gespannt und nach dem Zylinder drehen,
ein Blindholz angeleimt und einen Spannzapfen geformt für das Spannfutter.
Diese Technik benötigt gleich Null vom EDLEM.
Auf die Oberflächenbehandlung hätte ich auch verzichtet, weil so das helle Splintholz besser wikt und der Gelbstich vermieden wird.

thank you for your comments and I do understand what you mean....however I believe you should never change the form or proportions of the piece in an attempt to use all of the wood.

a wunderful piece turned from figured olive ash.
What a waste at the bottom, I know some turners who would like to have such pieces.
You are a lucky man that you can waste 20 % from the wood.

Ein wunderbares Stück gedrechselt aus der schön gezeichneten Olivesche.
Was für eine Verschwendung am unteren Ende, ich kenne einige Drechsler, die gerne solch ein Stück hätten.
Du bist ein glücklicher Mensch, weil du 20 % von den Holz verschwenden kannst.

thank you for your comment, but as i said above don't be fooled by pretty wood!! in a few years time the wood will all fade and the proportions and form are all that is left.

maybe if it was snakewood or cocobolo I can understand and would have used a glue block but olive ash is very common wood.

Die hell, dunkel Proportionen sind ideal und die Form gefällt mir auch.

Wunderschönes Holz und eine tolle Form.
Der Anteil Splint zu Kern passt gut.

Allerdings bin ich wie Heinz der Meinung, dass der weiße Splint durch das Öl zu gelb geworden ist.

Trotz allem ein schönes Teil.
